Purpose

Designed for use with children ages 6–16 recovering from brain injury, PTBI™ assesses the skills children need to return to school and function in the general education curriculum. An effective tool for monitoring functional changes, it helps clinicians identify children's neurocognitive, language, and literacy abilities, strengths, and weaknesses to implement effective interventions.

Assess Critical Skill Sets with the Ten PTBI Subtests:

1. Orientation tasks: Naming current place, date, and year.
2. Following commands: Tests attention, verbal memory, and listening comprehension.
3. Word fluency: Assesses executive skills for word search and memory.
4. What goes together: Tests semantic/conceptual knowledge, vocabulary, and verbal expression.
5. Digit span: Sequence recall of numbers to test auditory attention and immediate memory.
6. Naming: Uses drawings to test word retrieval and spoken language output.
7. Story retelling—immediate: Comprehension and recall of a narrative.
8. Yes/no/maybe: Measures language comprehension with complex syntax.
9. Picture recall and signature: Delayed retrospective memory test.
10. Story retelling—delayed: Measures recall of earlier narrative.
